Arsenal are reportedly in touch with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after a heart issue was discovered following the striker's recent COVID-19 infection.

Arsenal have reportedly touched base with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following concerns over a heart issue.

The 32-year-old tested positive for coronavirus before the Africa Cup of Nations kicked off and missed Gabon's opening two group games with Comoros and Ghana as a result.

Aubameyang returned to training in midweek and was thought to be in with a strong chance of turning out against Morocco next week, but the Confederation of African Football revealed that the striker had "cardiac lesions" after contracting COVID-19.

Now, Sky Sports News reports that Arsenal have been in touch with their former captain over the issue, but they are confident that he is not suffering from anything severe.

The report adds that Aubameyang is also feeling fine as he carries on training, but his participation in Gabon's final AFCON group game is still up in the air.

Gabon currently sit second in Group C after taking four points from their opening two games, beating Comoros 1-0 before rescuing a late 1-1 draw with Ghana.

Aubameyang only has four goals to boast from 14 Premier League games this season and has not played for Arsenal since being stripped of the captaincy following multiple disciplinary breaches in December.
