Chelsea 'want nine substitutes when Premier League restarts'

A report claims that Chelsea have asked for matchday squads to be increased from 18 players to 20 for the remainder of the Premier League season.

Chelsea are reportedly pushing for an increase to nine substitutes once the Premier League resumes later this month.

The Blues are back in training ahead of the top-flight's planned return on June 17, which comes 100 days on from the division's last match prior to the coronavirus-enforced shutdown.

Teams have previously been allowed to name seven players on their bench, but the Evening Standard claims that Chelsea want a further two players in their matchday squad.

That will give managers more options when it comes to making in-game changes, with five substitutions now permitted until the end of the campaign due to concerns over player fitness.

Lampard's men are locked in a battle for fourth place in the Premier League and are still in the Champions League and FA Cup.
