Luke Shaw calls for Premier League season to be scrapped

Luke Shaw believes that Liverpool should be denied a maiden Premier League title as he calls for the season to be scrapped.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has called on Premier League chiefs to 'scrap the season and start again' due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The domestic and European season has been postponed for the past month and will not resume until May at the earliest as COVID-19 continues to spread across the world.

Voiding the campaign is a suggestion that has been put forward should play not resume before the end of next month.

That means Liverpool - 25 points clear at the top - would be denied a first top-flight title in three decades, but Shaw believes that ending the season prematurely is the best solution.

"Scrap it and start again. Start it again, yeah. It's gotta be, you know. If we can't carry it on it's got to be void," he said on a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition.

"Fans are so important. You realise it even more now. I think the sport is for fans really, do you know what I mean? I think if you don't have fans, and you don't play in front of fans, it just doesn't feel right.

"Especially on matchday the fans are always amazing and always help the team. Whether it's home or even away, our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they're always there with us."

United are fifth in the Premier League and still in with a shot at winning the FA Cup and Europa League should the season resume.
