BBC Two controller Patrick Holland is keen to restart filming on Race Across The World but admits that it may be unlikely for some time.

BBC Two controller Patrick Holland has revealed that he is keen to start filming a new series of Race Across The World but has conceded that it might be unlikely for some time.

Just before the coronavirus pandemic hit, the BBC ordered a new series and a celebrity edition of the show, which features pairs of contestants making an epic trip without the use of planes.

The first series saw teams go on a journey through Europe and Asia, while the second was set in South America - although such trips are not expected to be possible for a significant period of time.

"We're all ready and eager to go as soon as it's possible," Holland said at the Edinburgh TV Festival. "We've been talking... about the casting and the applicants for this new series are extraordinary.

"Like everyone we're just so frustrated that we can't just get out and film. Race Across The World is one of those shows that is going to be tough to film until things start to change."

The second series, which aired during lockdown earlier this year, grew to an audience of around 5 million by its conclusion.
