The Crown could reportedly return with a new spinoff series centred around King Edward VII, the promiscuous son of Queen Victoria.
The monarch ruled from his mother's death in 1901 until his own in 1910 and was known for his numerous affairs - an alleged 55 - while one of his sons was at one point suspected of being Jack The Ripper.
The Crown wrapped up its six-season run, which charted the reign of Queen Elizabeth II up to the early 2000s, at the end of last year and was one of Netflix's most successful ever shows.
The streamer followed it up with a one-off drama called Scoop - about Prince Andrew's infamous Newsnight interview - and now The Sun says that the film's popularity has prompted discussions about more royal dramas.
"The consensus was that [The Crown] seemed to wane the closer it came to modern day and retelling multiple stories that so many were familiar with," a source told the newspaper.
"But Scoop showed that rather than doing this in a drawn-out, ten-part series, focussing instead on one moment in time seemed to hook people.
"If they can repeat that pattern by delivering prequels in a shorter form, they believe they may have come up with a winning formula for a new incarnation of The Crown."
Planning of the potential project is thought to be in the early stages and at present it is unknown if Peter Morgan, creator and writer of The Crown, will be involved.
