Henry Onyekuru: 'Forty-eight teams wanted to sign me'

Henry Onyekuru reveals that he turned down the chance to sign for Celtic and Paris Saint-Germain to instead link up with Premier League club Everton.

New Everton recruit Henry Onyekuru has claimed that he snubbed a number of clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic, before completing a move to Goodison Park.

The 20-year-old was last week unveiled as the Toffees' latest signing in a busy summer, joining from Belgian club Eupen for a fee of £6.8m

Onyekuru has revealed that things may have turned out differently, however, as he underwent a medical with PSG but was rushed into making a decision, at which point he instead decided to put pen to paper at Everton.

"In total there were contacts with 48 clubs in January," he told Het Laatste Nieuws. "I had been to a club in the Premier League and Celtic also wanted me.

"I underwent a medical with PSG. But they only gave me two hours to decide. It was Peter Odemwingie who recommended me to go to Scotland to make it easier to make the move to the Premier League, which has always been my dream."

Onyekuru scored 22 times for Eupen last season and will continue to ply his trade in the Belgian top flight next season on loan with Anderlecht.
