Mourinho: 'De Gea wants to stay at United'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says that David de Gea "wants to stay" at Old Trafford beyond the end of next summer when his contract is due to expire.

Jose Mourinho has said that he is confident an agreement can be reached between Manchester United and David de Gea over a new contract.

The Red Devils have been trying to tie the Spanish goalkeeper down to a long-term deal for a number of months to no avail.

De Gea is due to be out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, though United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months.

Paris Saint-Germain are the latest side to have reportedly made their interest known in De Gea, who has previously offered little indication that he wants to stay on at United.

However, Mourinho is adamant that the 28-year-old is happy to put pen to paper, telling BT Sport: "I know he wants to stay.

"I know his agent is happy to do what the player wants and I also know that the board wants him to stay and they are working on that. So hopefully sooner or later, they arrive at a good conclusion."

Italian champions Juventus have also been tipped to move for De Gea should he fail to reach an agreement with United before the end of the season.
